Prosecutors to seek death penalty in AL shootings

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Prosecutors say they'll seek the death penalty for accused University of Alabama in Huntsville shooter Amy Bishop.

The Huntsville Times reports that Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard has told the judge and attorneys in the case of the decision.

Bishop, a Harvard-trained biologist, is charged with capital murder in the February 2010 shooting rampage at UAH that left three of her biology faculty colleagues dead. She also faces attempted murder charges in connection with the shootings of three other biology department employees.

Bishop was indicted in March and her attorneys have notified the court they intend to use a defense of not guilty by reason of insanity.
